It’s been almost two months since the launch of Shooting Star at Nate AppStore. Behind the scene, however, there was the Shooting Star Studio who have put their utmost time and effort into the game. Day and night, the Shooting Star Studio is continuously working hard to maintain high quality service for our users. Today we are going to hear the behind stories of the making of the game.
SHA: Hello ^_^ Could you please introduce yourself and your team members?
Hi my name is Min-hyung Cho and I’m the PM / game designer of the game Shooting Star. Our team is comprised of 6 people including me:
Artist Jae-gu Lee, designed all the character and map designs,
UI Designer Bora Hong, designed the neat UI and all the eye-catchy pop ups,
Programmer Jong-seok Moon, developed Shooting Star physics from A to Z,
Programmer Duckhee Lee, developed friends list and user info UI,
Server programmer Eunhwa Jeong, built secure server and database.
SHA: While developing Shooting Star, what difficulties have you faced?
Min-Hyung: When designing a game, the designer must be aware of every little parts of the game. But it is much harder than it seems. Every time I thought the game was “complete and perfect”, always followed an unexpected error. T_T
Jae-gu: For me, character motion design was most difficult. But the feeling of accomplishment that follows was simply indescribable.
Bora: Since this was our team’s first game, there was no systemized development process. Despite the shortage of time we had, there were a lot of new ideas jumping in and out, asking for continuous modification, which sometimes discouraged efficiency. T_T
Jong-seok: When the shot ball didn’t fall in to the right place but danced around instead…
Duckhee: Developing social games for me was a new experience. Flash, ActionScript, OpenSocial API were all new to me thus dealing with unexpected error was the most difficult part.
Eunhwa: Everything in this field was new to me. Server, for example, is often exposed to many problems thus maintenance was my biggest mission.
SHA: What about the happiest moment? When was it?
Duckhee: I’ve always wanted to create a game of my own. The more effort I’ve put into, the more I’m excited to see our game grow.
Min-hyung: All the time and effort that we have put into were all compensated when people started to play our game after launched in Nate.
Jae-gu: I still remember the first time when I tried out the test version. I saw my art work actually moving and got goose bumps from it!! Also whenever I see good comments about our game, I feel proud and happy.
Bora: The day when the game was first launched, I was so excited. But above all, I treasure my team mates and the teamwork we’ve put into.
Jong-seok: When I finally killed all the bugs after the three full days of bug hunting…
Eunhwa: When I hear good comments about our game. But I’m more content with the fact that I’m learning more and our teamwork is growing.
SHA: Could you please give us some hints about your next project?
Min-hyung: Our next game will be a Sim-game. The more friends you play with, bigger the excitement and fun is guaranteed! It is very addictive and at the same time very social. Please stay tuned for our upcoming game! :D
SHA: Thank you Shooting Star team for your time. Do you have anything to say to your audience?
Eunhwa: It was a great experience working as a team. Please look foward to our next game too! :)
Min-hyung: We love, and truly enjoy social games! We’ll come back with a better, fancier game! BByong!
Jae-gu: As more people are becoming more interested I social games, I’ll try to impress them with more fun and innovative game design~
Bora: I want to make social games more social. We all have the same dream and I’m sure we’ll soon witness our dreams come true!
Jong-seok: Work til my code becomes more readable and beautiful!
Duckhee: We will conquer the Asian social games industry!! :)
